Established in 1999, Thalès Wine Cellar Services predominantly found its roots in the selling and supply of certified second hand barrels. Since then, our development and growth has been driven by the continuous high standards and quality demands set by local and international wine producers. We have recognised key areas in the wine industry to complement our barrel hygiene expertise. Over the years our knowledge and experience guided us to become leaders in wine cellar hygiene.To avoid the evolution of off-flavours in wine, and to help ensure the production of excellent quality wines, Thalès Wine Cellar Services offers an overall approach to wine cellar hygiene to the wine industry. Our range of products and services has grown beyond just barrels and barrel hygiene. The past decade, our business evolved into cellar hygiene consulting with several services and products for wineries. These include risk prevention services, remedial strategies and the supply of specialized cellar hygiene chemicals. The ThalèsWCS range of product offerings have further increased in recent years with the incorporation of oenological products.With our offices situated in the heartland of the South African wine industry, Stellenbosch, strategic partnerships with research institutions took shape in the past few years. An independent laboratory, Quantum Laboratory was founded in 2004 in a joint partnership between ThalèsWCS and the Institute of Wine Biotechnology (IWBT) at Stellenbosch University. ThalèsWCS would manage client relationships and marketing for the partnership, with analytical tests being outsourced to the laboratory at IWBT. Its main focus is to provide the wine and cork industries of South Africa with specialized analytical services as part of quality controlFinally, after more than 10 years of foreign ownership, ThalèsWCS is now proudly South African! The Thales Management performed a buy-out from the French Group Chêne & Cie during February 2010 and acquired full ownership. We are very excited and have received tremendous positive feedback from our clients and the industry. ThalèsWCS will develop into new areas that we have identified over the years and will continue to create awareness and bring solutions to our wine industry!
